Char Bar in Kansas City, MO
Char Bar brisket sandwich and fries |
Tonight I visited Char Bar in Westport in Kansas City, MO. Char Bar has been around since 2014 and has garnered a lot of buzz over the years. I get asked quite often if I have visited Char Bar yet on my quest and now I finally get to answer “yes.” Char Bar is located in the building that used to house the Beaumont Club in Westport.
I arrived around 5:20 on Thursday. This is a sit down restaurant and I was greeted and seated quickly by the server as I walked in. They have a bar area and a dining area that seats around 40 or 50 people. They also have a private room for parties that happened to be booked tonight, so they were very busy. My waitress was very nice and went over the menu and beer selections for me. She explained that they offer “southern inspired barbecue” and they also have a nice beer selection of craft brews from all over the city and surrounding areas.
I ordered their brisket sandwich and a side of fries. You are able to order their side dishes a la carte off the menu. As for their sandwiches, you can order them with two meats or one meat and you can order a large sandwich for a dollar more, so of course I jumped at that deal!
I received my food about 10 minutes after ordering. The sandwich is served without sauce on a toasted and buttered bun. The brisket was hot and tender with a great smokey flavor and a crispy bark. Just about everything you could ask for in a brisket sandwich. It was very easy to eat without any sauce on it. A great sandwich overall.
They have two sauces to choose from in bottles on each table. I decided to try them with my fries. The fries had a very tasty seasoning on them. The first sauce they offer is a “sweet” sauce that is obviously sweet, but not as sweet as a lot of sauces out there. I really liked it. The hot sauce had quite a kick to it and seemed to have a lot of black pepper taste to it. It was a really good sauce as well.

They serve their sandwich with a small side of sweet pickles and onions, which were also very tasty.
My bill for a large brisket sandwich and a side of fries was about 15 dollars. It’s a little pricey, but the food is excellent, so no complaints.
This makes visit number 37 on my quest. I’m glad I found Char Bar. Definitely a must visit if you are a barbecue fan.
Till next time…
